Welcome, and thank you for visiting Louise Dawson Counselling.
My name is Louise and I am a Counsellor providing both short and long-term counselling for adults in Milton Keynes. As well as working face to face, I also offer counselling by telephone or online using Zoom.
I have worked as a Counsellor since 2012, initially at the City Counselling Centre in Milton Keynes, seeing people who were referred from a busy drop-in service. I then moved on to work for Options, an agency that helps people with gambling addictions. I progressed to be an Associate Counsellor for The Practice MK and The Old Surgery in Leighton Buzzard. This work included me seeing people who had been referred by MK Act, and national employers Debenhams and John Lewis.
I now have my own private practice where I see people coming for a wide variety of reasons, including depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, PTSD and relationship issues. I specialise in attachment related issues, and this focus can offer us a greater understanding of how certain patterns and behaviours have developed within our relationships that may be causing us problems in present day.
An attachment-based approach can help us to find ways to strengthen our capacity to form strong bonds in relationships.
As a fully-qualified and accredited Counsellor, I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their code of ethics.
I gained the Foundation Degree in Counselling in 2015, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Attachment based Therapy in 2019.
I was awarded Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2018. Accreditation of counsellors recognises the achievement of high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy.
Counselling sessions provide you with a time and space to explore your thoughts and feelings at a greater depth than you might normally do. This can encourage you to gain more understanding and perspective on your difficulties, and discover a way you can overcome these.
This may include us looking at skills and tools to help you manage and cope with situations in a new way. Or you may be wanting to find a way forward to bring about a change in your life, or feel it is most appropriate to work on accepting a situation in your life.
It is because every person will have their own unique way of wanting to use counselling sessions, that I work as an Integrative Counsellor. This means I draw upon a number of different theories and approaches as I work, so that your sessions are tailored to you personally and facilitate you to get what you want from counselling.
This can lead to you living your life in a more fulfilling way, and enhancing your wellbeing.

Our counselling sessions will be held in a safe and confidential space, where you will be fully listened to with sensitivity and empathy, and without judgement.
My counselling room is located on Linford Wood in Milton Keynes where there is free, well lit parking directly outside the building. There is a ramp to the front entrance, and my room is located on the ground floor, making it easily accessible to all.
Your counselling sessions will be for 50 minutes, and the majority of people come on a weekly basis, the charge for this being £50.00 per session. The 30 minute introductory session I offer is free of charge.
Payments can be made by bank transfer or in cash on the day that we have our appointment.
When we meet for the introductory session, we can find a day and time for ongoing appointments that is convenient for you.
Our work together can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you feel, or react to them in the way you do, and offer you a clarity on how to start to make different choices moving forward.
If you want to find out more about counselling, or have unanswered questions, I invite you to come for a free 30 minute introductory session. This will be an opportunity for you to come and meet me, see where I am located, ask any questions you may have, and help you to decide if you would like to go ahead with counselling sessions with myself. This is offered as a no obligation appointment.
